Accident Summary:

UH-1H AIRCRAFT 67-17560 HAD RETURNED FROM A UY-2 MISSION AND THE CREWCHIEF REQUESTED THAT THE PILOT PARK THE AIRCRAFT IN THE 189TH AVN CO (ASLT HEL) WASH RACK. AS 560 APPROACHED THE WASH RACK, THE CREW NOTED THAT THERE WAS A UH-1H AIRCRAFT. 68-16462 SITTING IN SUCH A POSITION THAT BOTH THE WASH RACK AND THE ADJOINING REVETMENT WERE INACCESSIBLE TO OTHER AIRCRAFT. WO-1 HIGH SET 560 DOWN AND CALLED 189TH OPERATIONS WHICH SENT OUT A PILOT AND CO-PILOT TO MOVE 462. SP/4'S SQWYER AND KELLY, THE CREWCHIEF AND GUNNER, RESPECTIVELY OF 560, WENT OVER TO 462 AND ASSISTED WO-1 CRAIG DOBSON AND WO-1 MICHAEL RENFROE IN MOVING 462 INTO THE ADJOINING REVETMENT. AFTER 462 WAS IN THE REVETMENT AND ENGINE HAD BEEN ROLLED BACK TO FLIGHT IDLE, SP/4'S SAWYER AND KELLY RETURNED TO 560. WO-1 HIGH THEN BROUGHT 560 UP LIGHT ON IT'S SKIDS AND PUSHED THE CYCLIC INTO THE FORWARD POSITION TO GROUND TAXI INTO THE WASH RACK. AT THIS TIME WO-1 HIGH STATED THAT THE CYCLIC WAS BINDING. AS THE AIRCRAFT MOVED FORWARD, SP/4 SAWYER INFORMED WO-1 HIGH THAT THEY WERE GETTING CLOSE TO THE MAIN ROTOR BLADES OF 462 ON THE LEFT. SP/4 KELLY INFORMED WO-1 HIGH THAT HE HAD SUFFICIENT ROOM ON THE RIGHT AND CLEARED HIM TO MOVE RIGHT. WO-1 HIGH THEN REDUCED COLLECTIVE TO STOP HIS FORWARD MOVEMENT AND THE MAIN ROTOR BLADES OF BOTH AIRCRAFT MESHED. WO-1 HIGH ADDED THAT WHEN HE HAD REDUCED COLLECTIVE, THE CYCLIC HELD ITSELF FAST IN THE FORWARD POSITION.\\
